Eleven students from Vietnam in the eastern Australian State of New South Wales have been honoured for their outstanding academic performance.

A New South Wales ceremony was held on February 25 to extol the international students who made zealous contributions to scholastic social activities such as earning top-flight in exams, raising charity funds, and engaging in community humanitarian works.

Born in 1995 in the northern city of Hai Phong, Vi Quoc Tung, a student at selective Moorebank high school, expressed his pride of being recognised as one of the most excellent students in the State.

Tung, who topped the three consecutive math contests in Moorebank, spoke of his peers who have been shining in both study and community activities in Australia.

He himself has voluntarily participated in a cancer research fund and intends to study information-technology at Sydney University.

Vietnamese students in Australia number over 22,000.

During a visit to Vietnam on February 18, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said that her Government will increase scholarships for Vietnamese students and create best conditions for their studies in the country.-VNA
