Vietnamese students win 38 medals at 2024 Olympiads

So far this year, Vietnam has sent seven teams with 38 students to regional and international Olympiads, and all of them scored well.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese students scored well at regional and international Olympiads 2024 with 38 medals and certificates of merit, reported the Ministry of Education and Training on October 11.

Vietnam sent seven teams with 38 students to regional and international Olympiads, nabbing 12 gold, 15 silver, and 10 bronze medals, along with a certificate of merit. This is four gold and three silver medals more than the achievements in 2023.

At the 18th Online Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad hosted by China May 18-19, 35 teams participated from 35 countries and territories comprising 286 contestants. The Vietnamese students won one gold and six silver medals, putting the Vietnamese side in the sixth position.

The 24th Asian Physics Olympiad held in Malaysia from June 3-10 saw 208 participants from 27 countries and territories. The Vietnamese team walked away with one gold, one silver, and six bronze medals. This is considerably higher than the scores of previous years as all of the members came away with medals.

At the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad held in the UK from July 11-22 with the participation of 109 teams consisting of 609 contestants, Vietnamese won two silver and three bronze medals.

The 54th International Physics Olympiad held in Iran from July 21-27 saw the participation of 44 teams from 44 countries and territories with 197 contestants. Vietnamese students won two gold and three silver, leaving the country with an overall score that claimed the fifth position.

Teams from 89 countries and territories with 327 students joined the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Saudi Arabia from July 21-30. The Vietnamese team won three gold and one silver medal, helping Vietnam maintain its position in the top group.

Eighty-one countries and territories sent 320 contestants to the 35th International Biology Olympiad held in Kazakhstan from July 7-13, the biggest numbers ever at the event. The four-member team of Vietnam brought home three gold and one silver, ranking third – the best for Vietnam since 2019. It is noteworthy that many Vietnamese students scored high on practice tests which require very high standards.

The 36th International Olympiad in Informatics was held in Alexandria, Egypt with the participation of 353 contestants coming from 91 countries and territories. The four members of the Vietnamese team won two gold, one silver and one bronze medal, ranking fourth after those from the US, Japan, and Poland.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the scores of the regional and international Olympiads in 2024 affirm the effort by the students under the guidance of their teachers, and the encouragement from their parents and schools. The results are evidence of the skill and training on the national team that attend the regional and international Olympiads. The scores also affirm the universal education quality in Vietnam, on par with the best in the world./.

Top 10 finalists for 7th De Men Awards for Children 2026 announced
