Vietnam’s culture, tourism sector takes actions to protect environment

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has selected the northern province of Ninh Binh, home to the UNESCO-recognised Trang An Landscape Complex, to organise a training course on environmental protection in the field of culture, sports and tourism.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Culture,Sports and Tourism has selected the northern province of Ninh Binh, home to theUNESCO-recognised Trang An Landscape Complex, to organise a training course onenvironmental protection in the field of culture, sports and tourism.

The course responds to World Environment Day 2023(June 5) themed Solutions to Plastic Pollution, with a focus on solutions toplastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.

During the course, scheduled to take place from June28-30, will equip those concerned with knowledge about environmentalprotection, and raise their awareness of the matter.

Apart from the Trang An Landscape Complex, Ninh Binh,around 90 kilometres south of Hanoi, was also home to the ancient capital ofHoa Lu during the reign of the Dinh Dynasty (968-980), along with otherhistorical and cultural sites.

In 2019 before the COVID-19 broke out, the provincewelcomed 7.5 million visitors, of whom 1 million were foreigners. It expects toserve 3.5 million holidaymakers this year.

Like other tourist localities, Ninh Binh is facingenvironmental issues, including water pollution and plastic waste, which aredue to tourism boom and the lack of synchronous planning.

Given this, protecting the environment and raisingpublic awareness of the issue will contribute to the sustainable development ofthe culture, sports and tourism sector.

On June 5, the ministry will also organise a specialart programme on the theme, along with a photo exhibition and film screening, thuscalling for practical activities to protect the environment and biodiversity./.

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam

Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.

The project is being implemented in the former Hoa Binh city, now Hoa Binh ward. It has a total investment of 688.7 billion VND (26.38 million USD), including 507.3 billion VND in ODA and 181.4 billion VND in counterpart funding. Major components include a wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, a collection network, and connection infrastructure.

Government adopts action programme on environmental protection, climate resilience

The programme aims to translate the Party's orientations into concrete actions while strengthening environmental governance, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting a green, circular and low-carbon economy. It will serve as the basis for ministries, sectors and localities to formulate implementation plans for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision to 2045.
