A Vietnamese tra fish product made by Vinh Hoan Corp, the country’s leading tra fish exporter, won a grand prize for best retail product at the Seafood Prix d’Elite new product competition held in Belgium on May 3.

The product, namely Provocake, beat 37 other entries from 14 countries, to secure one of the most outstanding international awards and enter the final round of the contest, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

It features a fish cake made of tra fish (pangasius), shrimp and mushrooms encircled by asparagus and tied with a green onion top.

The winners of the finalists were on display at a special stand at the European Seafood Exposition and Seafood Processing Europe until it closed on May 5.

In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam shipped abroad over 153,000 tonnes of tra fish worth 376 million USD, up 5.2 percent in volume and 21.6 percent in value compared with the same period last year./.
