A seminar on Vietnam as an important industrial and trade partner of France in Southeast Asia, was held in Paris on May 16.

Addressing the opening of the seminar, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien spoke of Vietnam ’s orientation for trade development from now until 2020 and the country’s import-export strategy for the 2011-2020 period, which sets an export revenue of around 500 billion USD by 2020.

Participants focused their discussion on Vietnam ’s trade and investment policies, the development of economic and investment cooperation between Vietnam and France , and investment opportunities and legal environment in Vietnam .

On the sidelines of the seminar, Deputy Minister Bien said France and the European Union have an important role and position in trade and economic relations between Vietnam and other countries. Two-way trade between Vietnam and the EU continue to the increase, despite the impacts of public debt in Eurozone countries and global economic and financial downturn.

Vietnam ’s export value to France exceeded 500 million USD in the first four months of the year and is expected to be over 1.8 billion USD this year.

In the future, France is expected to continue its role as a key market for Vietnam ’s export staples.-VNA
