Hanoi (VNA) – Themilitary-run telecommunication group Viettelsaid it will remove roaming chargesfor phone calls among its subscribers in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
The move will allow subscribers ofViettel in Vietnam, Unitel in Laos and Metfone in Cambodia to make phone callsto each other at the same priceas domestic calls.Unitel and Metfone areViettel’s subsidiaries in Laos and Cambodia.
This policy makes Viettel thefirst mobile service provider in the world removing roaming charges forsubscribers of its networks abroad.
General Director of ViettelNguyen Manh Hung said the policy aims to promote economic development and tradebetween the three countries.
In 2013, the Ministers forInformation Technology and Communications of the ASEAN countries begandiscussing the removal of roaming charges.
Through its affiliate, Viettel Global, thetelecom giant has so far invested in Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Cameroon,Haiti, Mozambique, Burundi, Peru and Tanzania-VNA
