Vinh Moc Tunnels protected against coastal erosion

Quang Tri’s People's Committee has been prioritizing its resources to invest in building, repairing and upgrading the Vinh Moc sea embankment in Kim Thach commune, Vinh Linh district to prevent coastal erosion.

The Vinh Moc Tunnels were designed and built by the people of Vinh Linh from 1965 - 1967, including 3 main tunnels connected together into a continuous system with a length of over 1,700m. However, due to its location, large waves have caused coastal erosion and damage. In response, the local government has allocated over 1.5 million USD for an emergency repair project.

Over 3 km has been eroded, posing a danger to the Vinh Moc Tunnels. In order to prevent landslides and protect monuments, it will take at least 5 million USD. However, due to the province’s lack of funding, repairs and upgrades to the Vinh Moc embankment depend on financial support from the Government.

The sea embankment is only a few meters from the entrance to the Vinh Moc Tunnels, so the construction and upgrade of the coastal embankment to protect this special national monument is extremely urgent and needs to be synchronized./.
