Vietnam calls for promotion of national reconciliation with a view to finding a comprehensive and lasting solution to internal conflicts in Chad, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

Addressing the consultation meeting on Chad and the Central African Republic (CAR) in New York on Oct. 22, Ambassador Le Luong Minh, Charman of the UNSC expressed his concern about the volatile and unpredictable nature of the security situation in eastern Chad and north-eastern CAR as well as the ongoing tensions in the Chad-Sudan relations.

Vietnam supports mediation efforts played by Libya, Qatar and Egypt to improve the Chad-Sudan relations and hence address cross-border security threats in the sub-region, Minh said.

Backing the UN Mission in the CAR and Chad (MINURCAT)’s efforts in discharging its mandate in accordance with Resolution 1861, Ambassador Le Luong Minh appreciated MINURCAT’s support extended to the Chadian Government in the training and deployment of the DIS (Integrated Security Detachment), which played a significant part in improving the humanitarian situation.

In this context, the ambassador called on able donors and troop contributing countries to provide necessary troops and military enablers to MINURCAT to facilitate the mission’s early full deployment.

He also affirmed Vietnam’s support for the enhancement of the capacity of the Chadian Government thereby facilitating its ability to protect civilians and assume its security and humanitarian responsibility in preparation for MINURCAT’s future withdrawal./.
