VN, Cambodia localities foster cooperation in drug fight

The southwestern province of Tay Ninh and two Cambodian border provinces of Kom Pong Cham and Svay Rieng on Oct. 26 signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in combating drug trafficking in the period of 2011-2012.

At the signing ceremony, the two sides affirmed to continue implementingthe action coordination plan in the fight against cross-border drugtrafficking that was signed by the two countries’ governments on March14, 2003 and the minutes on cooperation in fighting drug crime ofprevious meetings between the two sides.

In theshort term, the two sides will focus on improving the Border LiaisonOffice (BLO) of each country at the international border gate MocBai-Bavet and establishing new BLOs in the border gate of Xa Mat –Tapeng Plong with the aims of sharing information on drug crimes.

The localities will also cooperate with relevantagencies in the two countries in order to instruct and educate theircitizens on the law on drug fight.

According to TayNinh Police, through coordination activities between Tay Ninh provinceand the Cambodia border provinces from 2009 up to now, the provincialpolice, border police and customs arrested 10 cases involving 25offenders and seized 2.787 kg of heroin, 4.93 kg of synthetic drug and12.3 kg of marijuana./.

Over 1.2 million students begin national high school graduation exam

Under the current examination format, candidates are required to complete the mandatory Literature and Mathematics tests, along with a combined test comprising two subjects selected from a range of options, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Foreign Languages, History, Geography, Technology-Industry, Technology-Agriculture, and Economics-Law. Students may also choose to take a foreign language different from the one studied at school.

Rare green sea turtle released back into the wild in Quang Tri

The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as vich, is a rare and protected species under Vietnamese law. It is also listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a species of conservation concern and is included in the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
