VN, France share experience in geographic information

Experts involving geographic information of Vietnam and France gathered in Hanoi on April 5 for a workshop on challenges and prospect for the field’s development in Vietnam.
Experts involving geographic information of Vietnam and France gatheredin Hanoi on April 5 for a workshop on challenges and prospect for thefield’s development in Vietnam.

The workshop aimed to createconditions for French businesses to inquire into prospect fordevelopment of geographic information system (GIS) in Vietnam,particularly in the areas of housing, transport, agriculture,environmental management, risk prevention, crisis governance andtopography. The application of geographic information is expected tohelp Vietnam in economic development, sustainable growth andprevention of environmental risks and natural disasters.

VietnameseDeputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Manh Hiensaid the GIS has been applied in Vietnam in agriculture-forestryplanning, forest management, archives of geology, topographic and landsurvey, urban management.

He stressed the workshop’s importance,describing it as a promising start between the French Trade MissionUBIFRANCE of the French Embassy in Vietnam and Vietnam ’s agenciesand organisations in developing bilateral cooperation in the topographicsurveying field.

French Ambassador Jean-Francois Girault saidthat the presence of French firms in GIS at the workshop is a signal forFrance ’s desire to work closely with Vietnam in ensuring thecountry’s sustainable development and self-reliance.

He said hewished the workshop would be an opportunity to develop sustainablepartnerships, creating long-term cooperation on earth observation andtopography between France and Vietnam. /.

Vietnam’s hiring outlook to see strong growth in Q4

In Vietnam, among 285 businesses surveyed, 52% expected to increase hiring in Q4, 16% planned to reduce hiring, while 32% intended to maintain their current workforce levels, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.

‘Small bricks’ help strengthen Vietnam-France ties

Dr. Gildas Tréguier, Secretary-General of the France-Vietnam Health Federation (FSFV), said the visit comes as Vietnam is opening further to the world and entering a new stage of development, creating greater demand for experience sharing and closer cooperation with international partners, including France. After nearly 40 years of involvement in medical cooperation programmes with Vietnam, he said bilateral ties have been built not only through major events and government-level agreements, but also through the contributions of generations of people.

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.
