The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on May 5 opened a photo exhibition towards the 60 th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, which put an end to the French colonial rule in Vietnam on May 7, 1954.

Entitled “Dien Bien Phu – a 60-year immortal epic”, the exhibition is showcasing 60 black-and-white photos taken by photographers inside and outside the agency who spent 55 days and nights in the heat of the battle documenting the fiercest fights and most difficult moments of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

Sixty colour pictures depicting the new face of the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien over the past 60 years are also on display.

Addressing the opening ceremony, VNA General Director Nguyen Duc Loi said that the exhibition is the agency staff’s deep gratitude to heroes, martyrs and all who joined the campaign.

It also aims to honour General Vo Nguyen Giap, the first commander-in-chief of the Vietnam People’s Army, for his great contributions to the triumph.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan highly valued the VNA’s organisation of the exhibition, saying that these photos reflect in a truthful and lively manner the important historical moments of the Vietnamese people during their struggle against foreign invaders.

The exhibition will stay open till May 12 at the VNA headquarters No.5 Ly Thuong Kiet street.-VNA
