WHO presents medical supplies to support Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight

The World Health Organization (WHO) has handed over medical supplies and consumables to the Ministry of Health as part of its continuing support to the Vietnamese Government for COVID-19 response.

Hanoi (VNA) – The World HealthOrganization (WHO) has handed over medical supplies and consumables to theMinistry of Health as part of its continuing support to the VietnameseGovernment for COVID-19 response.

In this batch of donation, WHO presented 413,451 USD worth of medical supplies,including 36,000 surgical masks, 70,000 respirator masks and 50 sets of HighFlow Nasal Cannula systems to Vietnam. More supplies are expected to arrive incoming days.

“We hope that these supplies will help protect our health care workers and savepatients’ lives. We have seen their tireless commitment to take care of thesick and we salute each one of them for their contribution. More than thesemedical supplies and materials, WHO continues to provide technical support tothe Government on the overall response strategy and we stand ready to providemore assistance as needed,” said Dr. Kidong Park, WHO Representative in Vietnam.

He also emphasised WHO’s commitment to support theGovernment in increasing vaccine availability in the country as a co-creator ofthe COVAX Facility, along the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness andInnovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF as the deliverypartner.

At the handover ceremony, Deputy Minister of HealthProf. Dr. Tran Van Thuan expressed the gratitude to WHO. “These medicalsupplies and consumables from WHO have arrived at the critical time as theGovernment and Vietnamese people are making effort to control and prevent thespread of COVID-19. They will be delivered immediately to Ho Chi Minh City asCOVID-19 emergency response for southern provinces. Vietnam also expects WHO’scontinuous technical support, especially in research and development oftreatments and vaccine,” he said./.

Malaria cases in Vietnam down 20% in 2024

According to Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh, Director of the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology, and Entomology, from 2014 to 2024, the number of malaria cases and deaths has gradually declined year on year, with a decrease of 97.76% from 15,752 cases to 353 cases per year.
