The Ministry of Transport on Mar. 29 started the construction of 10 new flyover bridges for pedestrians and motorbike drivers on National Highway No 5.

The bridges are part of a 65-million USD Strengthening Road Safety of National Highways in Northern Vietnam Project, with support from a JICA loan, and in accordance with Government Decision No 88, issued in August 2011.

The initiative aims at improving infrastructure as well as reducing traffic accidents and overload.

The 256 billion VND (12.1 million USD) construction, expected to reach completion in 16 months, will have a major impact on the social-economic and cultural development of the country.
