Trade union members and legislators are gathering at a two-day workshop in the coal-mining province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long city on August 13 to seek ways to draft a revised Labour Code and Trade Union Law.

Topping on the agenda of the northern province’s workshop was Germany’s experiences in authoring its Labour Code.

Participants at the workshop gave their opinions on a series of issues such as collective labour agreements, regulations on collective negotiations as well as articles in labour contracts.

They agreed that labourers working in businesses, which have not set up their trade unions, are entitled to choose a representative to protect their legal rights and interests. They also discussed conditions, processes and procedures to set up and join trade unions; the responsibilities of different levels within such organisations to each other; and the responsibilities of state, state agencies and businesses to workers and trade unions./.
