Observed annually on December 1 since 1988, World AIDS Day is a global occasion to raise awareness about the HIV-driven AIDS pandemic and to honour those who have lost their lives to the disease. Thirty-five years after the first HIV cases were detected in Vietnam, under the leadership of the Party and the State and with broad social engagement, HIV/AIDS programmes have expanded and become more effective, helping curb transmission and reduce the disease’s impact on public health and the country’s sustainable development.
