Two hundred outstanding young overseas Vietnamese from 24 countries worldwide on July 12 offered incense at the King Hung temple in the northern province of Phu Tho, marking the beginning of a string of 2013 Vietnam Summer Camp activities they will be taking part in.
This year’s camp, themed “10 years – The call of the homeland”, marks the 10th anniversary of its foundation.
At the Hung King temple relic complex, the young overseas Vietnamese learnt about the nation of origin through stories on the country’s founding and Hung Kings’ reign.
“This is the first time I have ever visited the Hung King temple. I am really touched and proud to be here and be able to better understand this land,” said Nguyen Hoang Yen, a Vietnamese expatriate living in Ukraine.
Offering incense at the Hung King temple raises the young expatriates’ awareness of their responsibility to the country, said Vu Tuan Hai, Head of the Culture and Information Department under the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.
This year’s camp will take place in nine provinces and cities nationwide. Participants will have chances to join a string of activities, namely youth exchanges and visiting President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum.-VNA
