Young volunteers in the central province of Ha Tinh lined alongside a stretch of National Highway 1A on August 11 to help ensure traffic safety on the road by offering advice and assistance to passing drivers.
The event was one of a number of activities that have been organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) and the Ministry of Transport in a bid to ensure traffic safety on National Highway 1A and National Highway 14, where expansion work is underway.
Addressing the ceremony, which took place in Ky Anh district, Transport Minister Dinh La Thang highlighted the leading role played by young people in promoting a safe traffic culture and praised their active participation in the expansion of the two national highways.
He proposed provincial and municipal chapters of the HCMCYU to duplicate the model nationwide, pledging to assist them in the work.
Permanent Secretary of the HCMCYU Central Committee Phan Van Mai said the union will continue its close coordination with the Transport Ministry and the National Committee for Traffic Safety in popularising the nation’s traffic laws and maintaining the effective presence of voluntary teams on the highways.
