The 20 th session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-20) kicked off in Hanoi on December 3, drawing nearly 500 delegates from Vietnam and other regional countries and international organisations.

With the theme “Values from space: 20 years of Asia-Pacific Experiences”, the four-day APRSAF-20 is jointly organised by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

It focuses on the application of space technology in disaster prevention, environmental protection, satellite information and education to increase people’s awareness of space science and technology.

At their plenary sitting on December 5-6, representatives from space agencies will present reports on the results and orientations of each country’s space technology application and exchange views on measures to intensify partnerships in the region.

This year’s forum offers a chance for Vietnam to expand its cooperation in space technology study and application with other countries and international organisations, as well as improve its position in this field.

Founded in 1993, the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum has gathered annually in order to strengthen ties between Asian-Pacific countries in the space field.

As a member of the forum, Vietnam has held many activities, participated in relevant forums, and signed agreements with space agencies of such countries as Japan and the Republic of Korea, in order to expand international and regional connection in this field.-VNA
