Association works to forge links with US

Doctor Nghiem Xuan Dat was re-elected as President of the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association at its congress on June 19.

The chapter has 19 branches in all, made up of 1,200 members. Based on guidelines issued by the State and Hanoi City , the association responds to diplomatic activities and takes part in meetings and exchanges to develop friendly and cooperative relationships between Hanoi and other capitals and major cities around the world.

It also organised campaigns to raise funds for people in central Vietnam who have suffered from natural disasters as well as people in Japan . The association also works tirelessly to link up the business communities in Vietnam and the US and promotes exchanges and cooperation in economy, science and education.

President Dat says that the association will work with relevant agencies to advise and help Hanoi select cities in the US that are keen to expand friendly and cooperative ties. They also inform interested parties about the investment potential and opportunities that Hanoi offers and provides the latest information about the capital’s socio-economic circumstances.

It intends to hold more seminars and to strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries and provides businesses with the information they need about economic cooperation with US companies.

The association will also propose new ways of attracting investment from overseas Vietnamese in the US and enable them to contribute to the capital’s development.-VNA
