Phnom Penh (VNA) – A Charity Fun Walk was launched in Koh Pich island, Phnom Penh on May 21, starting a series of activities celebrating the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN (August 8) in Cambodia.
The event was co-organised by the Vietnamese and Indonesian embassies, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Phnom Penh authorities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Christopher Montero, Ambassador of the Philippines - the country holding the rotary Chair of the ASEAN in 2017, said the event creates a driving force for ASEAN member states to fulfill common goals for an ASEAN Community of peace, stability and prosperity.
After a 1.6-kw walk, ASEAN and Cambodian citizens attended a charity fund-raiser and enjoyed traditional dishes made by staff of participating embassies.
All proceeds will go to Kantha Bopha children’s hospital, which offers free treatment to Cambodian children.-VNA
