Over the past few days, some bad elements have used superstitious stories to deceive H’Mong people of Muong Nhe district in the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien to gather in the forest, according to the Chairman of the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee, Mua A Son.

Chairman Mua A Son told the Vietnam News Agency that the bad elements even forced the people, mainly women, old people and children to go to the forest for the so called “establishment of a H’Mong Kingdom”. Due to severe weather and deficient and unhygienic living conditions, many people have fallen ill and one child has died from disease.

These activities are illegal, causing instability to local people’s life and production and disturbing security and order in the locality, he said.

In the face of this situation, local authorities and mass organisations have sent cadres to persuade the people not to believe in the bad elements’ plots. Local authorities have also provided food and medicine to help the people return home to continue their normal life.

The situation in the district has become stable and local authorities and people are preparing for the elections of the 13th National Assembly and the People’s Council at all levels for the 2011-2016 term as planned.

A number of foreign news agencies have recently made groundless reports about the incident, said Son, affirming the reports are wrong with ill intention./.
