Hai Phong (VNA) – Buddhist followers in the northern city of Hai Phong and neighbouring provinces now can admire the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace following the opening ceremony of an exhibition at Hong Phuc Pogoda in Bac Son ward, Kien An district.

The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace is the world’s largest Buddha statue carved from an 18-tonne jade block. The statue is 2.7 metres high and weighs 4 tonnes. It sits on a 1.4m-high alabaster throne.

It was made based on the Buddha inside the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodh Gaya (India).

The two-week exhibition, themed “creating and maintaining peace for humankind and Buddhism with life”, aims to help Buddhist followers understand more about the life of the Buddha as well as his doctrine in order to lead a more tolerate and humanitarian life.

The Buddhist followers can also attend preaching sessions on the meaning of the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace and pray for world peace every day during the opening time of the exhibition.

The display will last until April 20.-VNA
