Hanoi (VNA) – This year’s summer youth volunteer campaign will take place in difficult and remote areas across the country from June 1 to August 31 for the youth to join hands in building new-style rural and civilized urban areas.

The campaign is organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) Central Committee on several islands, including Tran and Co To islands (Quang Ninh), Bach Long Vi (Hai Phong), Ly Son (Quang Ngai), Cu Lao Cham (Quang Nam), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan) and Tho Chu (Kien Giang); and 64 poor districts, according to Permanent Secretary of the HCMCYU Central Committee Nguyen Manh Dung.

The campaign will be launched in a ceremony in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on May 28.

The youngster and Youth Union members will help repair and build 550 bridges, 500 kilometres of rural roads, irrigation facilities, and children’s playgrounds; and develop greener, cleaner and safer streets and alleys in cities and urban areas.

Each city or province’s youth union will construct at least 1 kilometre of rural roads and three charitable houses for policy beneficiaries and people who rendered services to the nation.

The campaign will provide about 60,000 young people with education on advanced technology and give free medical checkups and medicine to about half million people.

A series of events for benefits of the community will also be held as part of the campaign, such as offering consultation and support to national high school graduation examinees and their families, especially those living in difficult circumstances or with disabilities.

The campaign is expected to provide an opportunity to strengthen solidarity among the youth and youth union members and heighten the role of the youth union in the society.-VNA
