Hai Phong (VNA) — Viettel Group on July 20 announced the successful trial of its 5G Private Mobile Network (5G PMN) for the Pegatron smart factory in the northern port city of Hai Phong.

This is the first smart factory in Vietnam to operate automatically based on a 5G mobile service, bringing the advantages of high speed, low latency, and support for multiple connections.

In the first phase of cooperation, Viettel provides 5G private networks for applications including those in augmented reality for video calls; assembly stations; managing product testing activities and direct supervision of the production process.

It expects to provide 5G private networks by the end of 2023 for thousands of devices at Pegatron’s electronic equipment and components factory in Hai Phong.

CY Feng, a section’s General Manager at Pegatron said that the application of 5G Private Mobile Networks to the production line was in line with new trends in the industry.

Pegatron deployed this technology into the production line in Vietnam to improve the factory’s efficiency toward a modern and professional process. Viettel was a strategic partner of Pegatron and their technology met the requirements for a smart factory.

Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Phong city highly appreciated Viettel’s efforts in applying modern technologies in cities.

The successful test is evidence of the group's constant efforts to fulfil its commitment to accompany the city in digital transformation.

Dao Xuan Vu, Viettel’s Deputy General Director, said that Viettel pursues the philosophy that technology was born to solve social problems and improve the quality of life.

"Viettel has so far deployed 5G to 58 out of 63 localities. The company plays a key role in building a secure, strong and reliable connection infrastructure, which is the foundation for a dynamic and competitive digital service ecosystem that creates a digital society,” said Vu.

5G PMN is a dedicated mobile network that provides connecting mobile services for organisations and individuals that need to use specialised devices or machines requiring real-time connectivity. This is the new global trend with an expected annual growth rate of 51.2% from 2023 to 2030.

Since 2020, Vietnam has been one of the first countries to pilot and apply 5G. This is made possible thanks to the Government's vision of promoting Industry 4.0, thereby accelerating Vietnam's digital transformation.

Many partners in the ecosystem have been investing in domestic 5G deployment as well as developing products that take advantage of the 5G technology’s benefits. Qualcomm Technologies and Samsung believe that closer cooperation among all stakeholders will support the promotion of 5G across the country.

The 5G services are projected to contribute 7.34% to Vietnam’s GDP growth in 2025, according to research by the National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy.

Viettel has identified the 5G network as the infrastructure foundation for digital transformation and the 4th Industrial Revolution. As such, the company is promoting the research and creation of applications on the 5G platform.

The group’s main goal is to put Vietnam on par with the world in digital transformation as well as R&D for the high-tech industry./.
