Domestic and foreign organisations and individuals have so far donated 10 million USD as well as lots of commodities to help people hit by floods in 2009, said President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC) Tran Ngoc Tang.
The money has surpassed the target of 4.75 million USD set in the emergency call for help to the victims in the central and Central Highlands provinces by the VRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The VRC has provided household utensils, food, clean water and water filters among relief aids to flood victims.
The society has also rebuilt safe water works and cleaned up the environment for people in flood-hit areas.
On June 1, the VRC received water filter equipment worth 13,750 USD from the Siemens Vietnam Company. The solar energy equipment will be installed in Phu Loc and Phu Vang districts of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue with the German Red Cross Society’s technical assistance./.
