3,000 corruption, economic, smuggling cases cracked in H1

The Ministry of Public Security cracked down on more than 3,000 corruption, economic and smuggling cases, with more than 4,900 defendants involved in the first half of this year, heard a conference.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Ministry of Public Security cracked down on more than 3,000 corruption, economic and smuggling cases, with more than 4,900 defendants involved in the first half of this year, heard a conference.

The number of cases and defendants were 21.63% and 47.12% higher, compared to the same period last year.

The ministry held a conference on July 8 to review its performance in the first six months of this year, with the participation of State President To Lam, who praised their work.

According to Deputy Minister Tran Quoc To, the fight against crime has intensified as the ministry discovered ever more complex methods criminals were using. In the first six months of 2024, the ministry launched investigation into 22,022 crimes related to social order, higher than the target set by the National Assembly.

The ministry sped up the investigation and handling of major cases and new cases, said To.

The public security force has taken drastic measures to implement the Government's Project 06 on developing the application of population data, e-identification and authentication for national digital transformation. The rate of online public service provision in the first six months reached 97.13%.

Regarding salvage and rescue efforts, the ministry performed 581 rescues and saved 362 people.

President Lam praised the ministry for its achievements in the first half of the year and ordered the force to continue to focus primarily on anti-corruption work and then preventing and combating negative phenomena and corruption.

The ministry has been urged to be strategic about its performance, protecting national security, fighting crimes and continuing to expand international cooperation in security, maintaining safety, order, discipline and maintaining the socio-economic health of the country, while also promoting international integration.

He hoped that the force will overcome all difficulties and complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people, first of all successfully implementing the resolutions of the Party and the ministry’s Central Committee Party./.
