The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has allocated over 3.34 billion VND (about 160,000 USD) to support poor households nationwide on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet), the year’s biggest holiday in Vietnam.

The figure was announced at a meeting organised by the committee in Hanoi on January 16. The money will be used to buy 11,134 packages of Tet gifts for the country’s poor families.

Part of the sum, about 100 million VND, will also be used to present gifts to residents and soldiers of Truong Sa island district.
