According to the Oxalis Travel Agency, during the visit, the CrownPrince was greeted by Tran Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of the Quang Binhprovincial People’s Committee, who hosted a celebratory feast.
Dung also invited the guest to return to the system of caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the future.
Son Doong cave, which scientists believe was formed 2 to 5 millionyears ago, was first discovered in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Parkby a local man in 1991.
The cave was later madepublic in 2009 by a group of British scientists from the British CaveResearch Association after they extensively surveyed the area.
Son Doong has a length of at least 6.5 kilometres and is estimated tobe 200 metres in width and at least 150 metres in height (while its verylargest chamber is an incredible 250 metres in height, enough space toaccommodate 40-storey skyscrapers).
Each tour to SonDoong cave lasts for seven days and six nights at a cost of 3,000 USD,according to Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture,Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Ky.
In other news, theSaigontourist Travel Services Company is timetabled to welcome around30 international cruise liners carrying tens of thousands of foreigntourists to Vietnam in February.
