Localities across Vietnam held activities in commemoration of the Hung Kings, the legendary founders of the country, on April 18 or the 10th of the third lunar month.

HCMCity (VNA) – Localities across Vietnam held activities incommemoration of the Hung Kings, the legendary founders of the country, onApril 18 or the 10th of the third lunar month.

In Ho Chi MinhCity, the municipal Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in the city held a ceremonyto commemorate the death anniversary of Hung Kings at the Hung Kings MemorialSite in in the National History – Culture Park.

Speaking at theevent, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Tran Kim Yenreviewed the heroic tradition of national building and defending of the HungKings and expressed gratitude to them.

Following the incense offering ceremony, the city's leaders and dwellers joined a parade and offered “chung” cakes, “day” cakes,fruits, and specialties of the southern region to the altar of the Hung Kings,expressing gratitude to the Hung Kings' contributions to national construction and defence.

On thisoccasion, other cultural events were held there including a “chung” cakewrapping contest, camping, a book fair, traditional martial art performances,dragon dances, drum festivals, folk game booths, and artistic programmes.

Inthe Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, a ceremony to mark the death anniversaryof Hung Kings was held at the Hung Kings temple in Binh Thuy district.

Localauthorities and people performed rituals commemorating Hung Kings such asoffering incense and flowers.

A similar ceremony was held at the Lac Giao temple- a national historical and cultural relic in Buon Ma Thuot city, the CentralHighlands province of Dak Lak. 

The ceremony wasfeatured with Ede ethnic group’s gong performance, gongs and drum beating atthe opening ceremony, and incense, flower offerings to the Hung Kings.

Also on the occasion, many residential areas andworship facilities in the neighbouring province of Kon Tum held activities towards the legendary nation founders.

Similar ceremonies were also organised in the southern provinces of Ca Mau, Kien Giang and Vinh Long./.

An Giang aims to do away with substandard houses

As of May 13, An Giang broke ground on 2,957 homes under this programme, including 2,453 new constructions and 465 renovations. The province has already completed and delivered 2,482 homes to residents. As much as 215.5 billion VND (8.3 million USD) has been mobilised for the efforts.

Vietnamese students win four medals at Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad

The two gold medallists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who scored 169.25 points, and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, who scored 151.05 points.

Vietnam among countries with high human development: UNDP report

According to the report, which evaluates human development progress based on the Human Development Index (HDI), tracking achievements in health, education and income, Vietnam’s HDI in 2023 reached 0.766, ranking 93rd out of 193 countries and territories. This marked a substantial leap from 0.499 in 1990, representing a 53.5% increase, a notable trajectory of growth over more than three decades.

Local officials are required to strengthen on-the-ground inspections and take prompt action to address any signs of stagnation or lack of accountability in executing the campaign. They are also tasked with completing administrative procedures to ensure timely disbursement of financial support to eligible households, avoiding overlap or omission in beneficiary identification.
