ADB assists in Green Urban development

Chairman of the Thue Thien-Hue People’s Committee met with a ChiefSpecialist of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) regarding the UrbanDevelopment type II- Green City infrastructure project on March 10.

The project was planned to be implemented in Ha Giang, VinhPhuc, and Thua Thien-Hue province with an initial investment of 1million USD. ADB provided 800,000 USD of the initial capital injectionunder a non-refundable scheme.

It was set to have been carriedout from January 2014 to February 2015, however due to changes in aidcriteria of ADB projects, funding allocated to the project were adjustedto over 2.3 million USD.

Accordingly, the ADB will stillcontribute 800,000 USD, but with an additional 1 million USD from theUrban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund (UCCRTF) under the UrbanFinancing Partnership Facility (UFPF) of the ADB, 300,000 USD from theWater Financing Partnership Facility (WFPF) under the Netherlands TrustFund (NTF), and the remaining balance will be provided by the governmentof Vietnam.

And, the duration of the project was also adjusted,expectedly starting in March 2016. These adjustments were approvedby the Prime Minister in Decision 2331/QD- TTg dated December 23, 2014.At the meeting, the ADB official Sofia, said the bank hasestablished a disbursement mechanism consistent with the bank’s loanpolicies and ensuring efficient project implementation with specialattention to the quality of technical infrastructure for building theGreen City. In return, Chairman of the People's Committee of ThuaThien-Hue Nguyen Van Cao lauded the cooperation and assistance of theADB and pledged to direct authorised bodies to carry out the project asscheduled.

The province aims to have 95 percent of itsland area considered urban, 70 percent of industrial parks using watertreatment systems, 100 percent of medical waste collected and treated tomeet environmental standards, and to provide 5 square metres of publicgreen land area per person by 2020.-VNA

Co To to offer free vessel trips to/from island on 29th day of last lunar month

To accommodate surging travel demand and keep transport operations running smoothly, the PM instructed relevant bodies to boost transport capacity, particularly public passenger services, to ensure seamless connections at railway stations, airports, bus terminals and ferry ports. Authorities were told to ensure that no travellers are left stranded or delayed in returning home for Tet due to a shortage of transport, while strictly preventing fare gouging and unlawful price hikes. Proactive measures to curb traffic accidents and congestion during the peak holiday period were also highlighted.
