The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved funding of 24.8 million USD to improve the quality of higher education in Laos.

The fund will contribute to increasing standards in higher education, especially in the areas of human resources, infrastructure and facilities at the National University of Laos, and Champassak and Luang Prabang universities, said Yasushi Hirosato, the ADB’s Senior Education Specialist at a ceremony to celebrate the awarding of the grant on July 29 in the Laos capital of Vientiane.

Apart from advancing higher education in Laos , the ADB is also supporting a project on Basic Education for Girls in various provinces around Laos .

Since 1999 the project has helped provincial education departments to evaluate their individual education systems and identify problems and solutions to reduce the numbers of children that do not attend primary school./.
