Hanoi (VNA) – Sen. Lt. Gen. Pham Ngoc Minh,Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, welcomed Maj.Gen. Michael Stencel, Adjutant General of the US’s Oregon National Guard, inHanoi on January 19.

The reception was part of the US officer’sworking visit to Vietnam.

The two sides shared the view that under theVietnam-US comprehensive partnership, defence cooperation has been developingover the past years as seen in such areas as humanitarian aid, natural disasterresponse, training, sharing peacekeeping experience, and addressing warconsequences.

Minh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importanceto the US’s role in the region. He expressed his hope that the two armies willcontinue making efforts to reinforce their defence ties in a practical andeffective manner on the basis of equality and mutual respect for the sake ofeach country and for peace and stability in the region and the world.-VNA
