Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief reviewof the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The 1954 Geneva Agreement on the Cessation of Hostilitiesin Vietnam is a historical milestone of the country's revolutionary diplomacy,bearing the imprint of President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, style, and art of diplomacy,Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son wrote in his article marking 70 yearssince the signing of the document (July 21, 1954-2024).

According to Son, the signing of the agreementopened up a new page in the Vietnamese people’s struggle for nationalliberation and unification. After 70 years, the lessons from negotiating,signing and implementing the agreement remain valuable for the nation building,safeguarding and development cause today. Read full story

- Vietnamese and Lao female lawmakers on April 25 sharedtheir experience in politics at a workshop in the northern Laoprovince of Luang Prabang.

In her opening remarks, Chairwoman of theVietnamese National Assembly (NA)’s Social Affairs Committee Nguyen ThuyAnh said the workshop offers an opportunity for them to tighten theirbonds. Read full story

- The winners of thethird edition of the “Protecting the Party’s ideological foundation in the newsituation” contest were announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 24.

- Millions of children in Vietnam have been protected byimmunisation over the past 40 years, said the World Health Organisation (WHO)and UNICEF offices in Vietnam on April 25 when they mark the World ImmunisationWeek from April 24-30.

The number of children dying from vaccine-preventable causes inVietnam has been reduced significantly since 1981, when the country introducedthe national immunisation programme – the Expanded Programme on Immunisation(EPI) – with the aim to ensure that every child, everywhere in Vietnam canreceive the lifesaving protection of routine immunisations, the two UN agenciessaid in their joint media release issued on April 25. Read full story

- Due to a hike of air ticket prices for domestic flights,Vietnamese tourists are turning to short-distance trips for the upcomingNational Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1) holidays.

Airfares have stayed high since the start of Marchas planes of many airlines are undergoing maintenance. Ticket prices for someroutes on April 30 and May 1 have doubled. Read full story

- The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations andother agencies in New York will continue assisting Vietnamese localities toenhance relations with US-based partners, a diplomat has said.

- A ceremony to announce the list of the top 500 fastestgrowing enterprises in Vietnam (FAST500) and Top 5 and Top 10 real estate -construction - building materials companies in 2024 was held bythe Vietnam Report JSC in collaboration with VietNamNet newspaper onApril 25.

Vietnam treasures traditional friendship with Mauritania: FM

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration. Laos will send a delegation to Vietnam to study preparations for the World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese, scheduled for December 2026.

Vietnam seeks stronger ties with Greece’s Patras

Mayor Kostas Peletidis said Patras is ready to work with the Vietnamese Embassy to promote the country as well as its culture and people through local cultural events and festivals, including the Patras Carnival, one of Greece’s largest annual festivals, the mayor remarked.

Vietnam, Philippines strengthen people-to-people friendship

PM urges Tuyen Quang to accelerate measures to achieve double-digit growth

The PM chaired a working session on July 15 with the Standing Board of the Tuyen Quang Party Committee on socio-economic development, the double-digit growth target, public investment disbursement, the operation of the two-tier local government model, implementation of Politburo Resolution No. 57, and measures to address local challenges.

Vietnam pledges continued contributions to ASEAN-EU ties: Deputy FM

Deputy FM Dang Hoang Giang, who is also head of the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) delegation of Vietnam, spoke highly of the positive progress in the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership, noting that the EU has become one of ASEAN's most reliable partners and has provided substantial support for the ASEAN Community-building process.

Foreign Minister receives Indian Ambassador

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said Vietnamese authorities are expediting investigations into the cause of the recent speedboat accident and will strictly address any violations while strengthening safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
