Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The 1954 Geneva Agreement on the Cessation of Hostilities in Vietnam is a historical milestone of the country's revolutionary diplomacy, bearing the imprint of President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, style, and art of diplomacy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son wrote in his article marking 70 years since the signing of the document (July 21, 1954-2024).

According to Son, the signing of the agreement opened up a new page in the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national liberation and unification. After 70 years, the lessons from negotiating, signing and implementing the agreement remain valuable for the nation building, safeguarding and development cause today. Read full story

- Vietnamese and Lao female lawmakers on April 25 shared their experience in politics at a workshop in the northern Lao province of Luang Prabang.

In her opening remarks, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA)’s Social Affairs Committee Nguyen Thuy Anh said the workshop offers an opportunity for them to tighten their bonds. Read full story

- The winners of the third edition of the “Protecting the Party’s ideological foundation in the new situation” contest were announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 24.

- Better investment climate, with simplified administrative producers and special incentives, has helped improve investor confidence, thus catalysing investments from a wider pook of both domestic and international investors for socio-economic development.

- Millions of children in Vietnam have been protected by immunisation over the past 40 years, said the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF offices in Vietnam on April 25 when they mark the World Immunisation Week from April 24-30.

The number of children dying from vaccine-preventable causes in Vietnam has been reduced significantly since 1981, when the country introduced the national immunisation programme – the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) – with the aim to ensure that every child, everywhere in Vietnam can receive the lifesaving protection of routine immunisations, the two UN agencies said in their joint media release issued on April 25. Read full story

- Due to a hike of air ticket prices for domestic flights, Vietnamese tourists are turning to short-distance trips for the upcoming National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1) holidays.

Airfares have stayed high since the start of March as planes of many airlines are undergoing maintenance. Ticket prices for some routes on April 30 and May 1 have doubled. Read full story

- The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations and other agencies in New York will continue assisting Vietnamese localities to enhance relations with US-based partners, a diplomat has said.

As part of a programme on promoting Vietnamese localities in the US, Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN had a meeting with a delegation of the Party Committees of six provinces, namely Gia Lai, Ha Nam, Ha Tinh, Hoa Binh, Thua Thien - Hue, and Yen Bai, on April 22. Read full story

- The complete reunification of Vietnam on April 30, 1975 was an extremely significant event in the history of the country and the world, opined a scholar from the Institute for International Relations at the National University of La Plata, Argentina.

The complete victory of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign is a demonstration of the unyielding spirit and the strength of the unshakable great solidarity of the Vietnamese people, Ezequiel Ramoneda, Coordinator of the institute’s Centre for Southeast Asian Studies, said in an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency ahead of the 49th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2024). Read full story

- A ceremony to announce the list of the top 500 fastest growing enterprises in Vietnam (FAST500) and Top 5 and Top 10 real estate - construction - building materials companies in 2024 was held by the Vietnam Report JSC in collaboration with VietNamNet newspaper on April 25.

This marks the 14th consecutive year of the FAST500 list being announced. The event aimed to honour outstanding achievements and great efforts of the Vietnamese business community during the recent turbulent times./. Read full story
