- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam held talks with visiting General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith in Hanoi on January 26 morning.
Sharing the common delight of the Vietnamese and Lao people over the success of the 14th National Congress of the CPV and the 12th National Congress of the LPRP, the two leaders briefed each other on the situation of their respective Parties and countries, as well as the major outcomes of each Party’s National Congress. - Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong met with with visiting General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith in Hanoi on January 26.
President Cuong expressed his pleasure at meeting the Lao leader, and congratulated him on being re-elected as General Secretary of the 12th Central Committee of the LPRP, saying that the re-election reflects the high trust and recognition of the Party, State and people of Laos for his important and effective contributions in recent years. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has stressed that the construction of nuclear power plants is a major project of strategic significance, involving new and high technologies and carrying sensitive isues, particularly in terms of nuclear safety.
The PM made the remarks while chairing a January 26 meeting of standing members of the government and the Standing Board of the Government Party Committee on reports and submissions to competent authorities regarding nuclear power projects. - The upcoming official visit to Vietnam by President of the European Council (EC) António Costa holds great significance for the Vietnam – European Union relations, particularly as it follows the successful 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Vietnam’s Mission to the EU Nguyen Van Thao.
In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondents in Belgium, Thao noted that the visit reflects the EU’s recognition and appreciation of Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification of international relations, while affirming the country’s growing stature and credibility in the international arena, particularly as a key partner of EU in the Asia–Pacific region. - The rapidly changing international environment, marked by profound disruptions across most sectors, is presenting both opportunities and challenges for the realisation of the development goals set out by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) in the period ahead, former Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski (2022–2024) has told Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Australia.
According to him, the first challenge is geopolitical in nature, as conflicts are ongoing in multiple regions like Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, at a time when the post-World War II system of international relations is being disrupted. While it is not possible to accurately predict future developments, international geostrategic competition with the risk of conflict remains a reality that Vietnam will continue to face.
