Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the northern province of Quang Ninh on June 11 to inspect the production and supply of electricity at the Mong Duong Thermal Power Company, Quang Ninh Thermal Power JSC, as well as coal mining and supply for thermal power plants at Ha Tu Coal JSC.

Later, he held a working session with ministries, agencies, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) to discuss the electricity production and supply, and coal mining and supply for electricity production. Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha recently held a working session with representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and a number of relevant ministries and agencies on policies to increase the installation of roof-top solar power systems in the community.

Under the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (PDP VIII), in 2030, 50% of office buildings and 50% of residential houses use solar power for their self-consumption. Read full story

- Each company has to spend about 14.9 hours to complete a cross-border trade transaction and incur direct costs of around 3.8 million VND (165 USD) for logistics services, according to the 2022 Administrative Procedure Compliance Costs Index (APCI) report.

The report was compiled by the Prime Minister's Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform with the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) through the LinkSME project aimed at promoting reform and enhancing the connectivity of small and medium-sized enterprises. - The EU firms have an especially advantageous position to enter Vietnam’s food processing market due to the close trade ties between Vietnam and the bloc, as well as a favourable image of European products among Vietnamese consumers, according to Vietnam Briefing news site.

In a recent article, the news site highlighted the growth prospects of Vietnam’s food processing sectors and discussed how EU companies can capitalise on the current opportunities in the market. Read full story

- Vietnam is predicted to face challenges in realising its 10-billion-USD goal in aquatic export value in the third quarter of 2023, heard a conference held by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 12.

According to VASEP, Vietnam’s aquatic exports reached only over 3.2 billion USD in the first five months of the year, falling nearly 30% compared to the same period last year. Read full story

- Solutions for developing smart cities and industrial parks in the southern province of Binh Duong were announced at a ceremony jointly organised by the provincial People’s Committee, Becamex IDC, and Japanese telecommunications company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) on June 9.

At the event, Vietnam Technology and Telecommunication JSC (VNTT) – a subsidiary of Becamex IDC - signed a strategic collaboration agreement with NTT Data of NTT Group to deploy solutions for developing smart city and industrial parks in Binh Duong. Read full story

-  “Salted roasted cashew nuts”, “Plain cashew nuts” and “White cashew nuts” have become the first to be recognised as 5-star OCOP (one commune one product) products at the national level of the southern province of Binh Phuoc – the country’s cashew “capital”. Read full story

- Vietnamese instant noodle products imported into the European Union (EU) market will not be required of certificates of food safety inspection issued by Vietnam’s authorised agencies from June 27.

The EU on June 7 published an amendment to Regulation 2019/1973 regarding emergency measures for controlling food exports into the EU. Accordingly, the EU has officially moved Vietnam’s instant noodles from Annex II which requires a Health Certificate (HC) and 20% control at the border gate to Annex 1 which only requires 20% control of the products at EU border gates. - Vietnamese workers in Changwon city of Gyeongsangnam province, the Republic of Korea (RoK), were updated on the host country’s laws at a meeting held on June 11.

The event, organised by the city’s centre for supporting foreign workers and the labour management office under the RoK’s Employment Permit System (EPS), attracted a large number of Vietnamese workers who also had their questions answered. Read full story

- A Vietnam-Malaysia arts and cultural exchange was held on June 11 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries' diplomatic ties.

The event drew the participation of more than 120 representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy, businesses and Vietnamese community in Malaysia. Read full story

- A programme to develop Vietnamese tourism brand through cinema in 2023 will take place in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa from June 16-18, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Jointly organised by the ministry and Khanh Hoa province, it aims to create a bridge between businesses with those working in the film industry and the locality, thus contributing to promoting the Vietnamese culture and tourism in general, and landscapes and economic potential of Khanh Hoa in particular.
