- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 27 emphasised the importance of globaland all-people approaches to and response measures against “headwinds” that arehindering economic growth of the world and Vietnam, while addressing a debatethemed “Braving the Headwinds: Rewiring Growth Amid Fragility” within theframework of the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) of the WorldEconomic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, China. Read full story

- The stock market has reportedly shown positive response to recent interestrate cuts. Last week, the benchmark VN-Index rose 2.1%, equivalent to 24 pointsto 1,129.38 points. The money flows tended to be channeled into bank stockswhile some steel and chemical ones also went up thanks to high hopes for thepressure from lending interest rates to be eased.

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) continued reducing regulatory interest rates onJune 19, the fourth cut in a row since mid-March. Read full story

- The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam is predicted to see a 1.5-foldincrease following the extension of tourist e-visas from 30 to 90 days fromAugust 15, according to insiders. It is part of the Law on amendments andsupplements to a number of articles of the Law on the Exit and Entry ofVietnamese Citizens, as well as the Law on Foreigners’ Entry into, Exit from,Transit through, and Residence in Vietnam, approved by the National Assembly onJune 24 at its fifth session. Read full story

- China spent 805 million USD on importing vegetables and fruits from Vietnamin the first four months of 2023, up 29% year-on-year, according to the VietnamFruit and Vegetables Association (Vinafruit). The neighbour led the top five importersof Vietnam's vegetables and fruits with exports to the country accounting for59% of Vietnam’s total export volume. Read full story

- Bach Mai Hospital in collaboration with Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) andEconomic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) on June 27 organisedthe 2nd Vietnam- Japan conference on the prevention and control of non-communicablediseases (NCDs).

The conference saw the attendance of leading medical experts from the twocountries, who discussed the current situation, challenges, control strategies,and management of NCDs in three plenary sessions and four thematic sessionsabout cardiology, stroke, diabetes, and respiratory. Read full story

- More than 1 million candidates arrived at examination venues nationwide onJune 27 to complete procedures for their participation in the 2023 NationalHigh School Graduation Exam, which will commence the next day.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, a total of 1,024,063students registered for the test, an increase of over 20,000 compared to lastyear. Read full story

Lawmakers seek legal reforms to promote telecom infrastructure data sharing

A deputy of Ha Tinh province said there is currently no clear legal basis for sharing technical infrastructure data. While the issue may be less apparent under normal circumstances, it could hamper local coordination and response during storms, floods and other disasters when detailed infrastructure data is not readily available.

Get-together celebrates 59th founding anniversary of ASEAN

Legislators review bills to streamline administrative procedures in agriculture, environment

Presenting the draft law on amending and supplementing several articles of 10 laws concerning administrative procedures and business conditions in the agriculture and environment sector, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung said it is designed to institutionalise the Party's policy of reducing and simplifying administrative procedures and business conditions, while promoting decentralisation, innovation, and more effective state governance.

Vietnam, Australia to further strengthen cooperation

The messages posted on Australian Government media platforms highlighted Australia and Vietnam as close regional partners with a long-standing friendship. This will be General Secretary and President Lam’s first visit to Australia since being appointed as President in April and it is also the first in-person meeting between the two leaders.

The legislative package includes a draft Law on Urban Development, a bill amending and supplementing several articles of 10 laws that govern administrative procedures and business conditions in agriculture and environment, and the draft Law amending and supplementing several articles of the Law on Radio Frequencies, the Law on Telecommunications, the Law on E-Transactions, and the Law on Technology Transfer.

Vietnam, Netherlands seek deeper manufacturing cooperation

Malaysia-Vietnam defence ties set for more practical cooperation: expert

According to the expert, another key outcome was the reaffirmation of the 2023 defence cooperation MoU and the Action Programme for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as the principal roadmap for future collaboration. The framework builds on existing cooperation in delegation exchanges, consultation mechanisms, military education, defence industry, and coordination within ASEAN and other multilateral forums.
