Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- During the Q&A session at the 15th National Assembly's ongoing 7th meeting in Hanoi on June 6, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha addressed a range of socio-economic issues and outlined Government plans for the coming months.

Ha underlined drastic measures to strengthen social welfares policies and improve living standards, including streamlining procedures and offering investment incentives to support social housing development for low-income earners, ethnic minority people, military personnel and policy beneficiaries. The Government is also considering establishing a social housing development fund with contributions from the State, businesses, and the public. Read full story

- Vietnamese elders in all historical periods have always been worthy of being the backbone of the nation, and those sacrificing their lives for society, and being the eternal torch that lights up the spirit of autonomy, self-reliance, and national immortality, State President To Lam affirmed on June 6.

Meeting outstanding elders nationwide on the occasion of the 83rd traditional day of the Vietnamese elderly (June 6, 1941-2024), the leader affirmed that they are still truly a solid support, keeping the country stable and peaceful for developing sustainably and moving forward with the times. - Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, hosted a reception on June 6 for General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

The Vietnamese official affirmed that Vietnam always values and gives top priority to strengthening and developing the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability with Cambodia. Read full story

- After 30 years of developing bilateral relations, Vietnam has become a key trade partner of Slovenia in Asia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia Tanja Fajon has stated.

In a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (June 7, 1994 - 2024), Fajon highly valued Vietnam’s role and position and expressed her belief in the potential to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields. - Vietnam shipped an estimated 3.6 billion USD worth of fishery products abroad during January-May, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

During the span, the export of tuna rose 25% against the same time last year to nearly 397 million USD. Read full story

- The Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line is expected to begin commercial operation on its over-8-km elevated section running from Nhon to Cau Giay in late June or early July, after 14 years of construction.

As planned, 10 trains of this metro line have just been granted a certificate of quality, technical safety and environmental protection by the Vietnam Register under the Ministry of Transport. Read full story

- The Vietnam International Sourcing Expo 2024 opened in Ho Chi Minh City on June 6.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang said the event aims at helping enterprises better integrate into global production and supply chains, as well as promoting foreign distributors' and importers' connectivity with domestic producers and exporters. Read full story

- The Teqball World Series 2024 kicked off in the central beach city of Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh province, on June 6.

According to the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ), the four-day event draws the participation of 115 athletes from 52 countries and territories. The tournament consists of 124 qualifying matches taking place from June 6 to 8, and the final match and awarding ceremony will take place on June 9. Read full story./.
