Vietnam, Cambodia intensify sharing of common perception on defence strategy

Hanoi (VNA) - Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, hosted a reception on June 6 for General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

The Vietnamese official affirmed that Vietnam always values and gives top priority to strengthening and developing the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability with Cambodia.

According to Cuong, defence cooperation between the two countries has continued to develop substantively and effectively over the recent times, with notable achievements across multiple domains.

For his part, Sophan conveyed greetings from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Gen. Tea Seiha, and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Vong Pisen to the Vietnamese official.

The Cambodian official also informed the host of the outcomes of the talks with Senior Lieut. Gen Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief of the Vietnam People's Army General Staff, earlier the same day.

Cuong expressed his support for the agreed-upon cooperation orientations, suggesting that the two sides to focus on coordinating in advising and effectively implementing common perceptions of high-level leaders and the defence ministries regarding military and defence cooperation; enhancing the exchange of delegations; conducting exchanges among young officers; human resource training; cooperation in border management and protection; and promoting education and communication on the traditional relationship between the two countries and their armies.

He thanked the government, the Ministry of Defence, and the Royal Cambodian Army of Cambodia for their coordination with and effective support for Vietnam in searching for, collecting, and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives during wars in Cambodia.

The Vietnamese official extended his regards to PM Hun Manet, General Tea Seiha, and General Vong Pisen; and invitation to Pisen and other leaders of the Royal Cambodian Army to attend the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024 which will take place later this year./.
