Da Nang (VNA) - The 39th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship concluded in the central coastal city of Da Nang on December 6.

Singapore took the lead at the championship with 41 gold, 41 silver and 28 bronze medals, followed by the Vietnamese delegation, which pocketed 29 gold, 24 silver and 21 bronze medals. Indonesia rose to the third place with 13 gold, three silver and 11 bronze medals.

An additional 13 records were set on the last day of the competition, increasing the total records during the tournament to 45.

Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram set new records for the 50 metre free style and 100 metre free style categories in the U14-15 age group. Meanwhile, other records in U16-18’s 50 metre breaststroke, U13s’ 1,500 metre free style and U14-15’s 200 metre butterfly were also smashed by Vietnamese swimmers.

The event drew the participation of 262 swimmers from eight Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The competitors were divided into three age groups, U13s, 14-15 and 16-18, to compete for 105 sets of medals.

The Vietnamese delegation came first at last year’s event, bagging 19 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze medals.-VNA
