Agro-forestry-seafood exports maintain growth

Vietnam’s agro-forestry-seafood exports have maintained growth in the first month of 2013 with an estimated turnover of 2.17 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 39.7 percent.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, mostexport staples except rice and rubber, saw rises in both volume andvalue.

In January, the country shipped about191,000 tonnes of coffee, earning 387 million USD, up 70.6 percent and70.7 percent year-on-year respectively.

Around 5,000tonnes of pepper were exported during the month, bringing home 40million USD, up 54.2 percent in volume and 65.1 percent in value overthe same period last year.

The US and Germany remained the key markets of Vietnamese coffee and pepper products.

Tea export was estimated to reach 10,000 tonnes worth 16 million USD,representing respective year-on-year rises of 10.2 percent and 16.4percent. Pakistan remained the largest consumer of Vietnamese tea,accounting for a 20.1 percent market share.

Theexport of cashew and cassava also increased in the first month of theyear, earning 88 million USD and 131 million USD, respectively.

Wood and wooden products earned 425 million USD, an increase of 47.3 percent against the same period last year.

Meanwhile, seafood products brought home 376 million USD, up 3.5percent. The US continued to be the top importer of Vietnamese seafoodwith 19.1 percent, followed by Japan, with 17.8 percent, and theRepublic of Korea, 8.3 percent.-VNA

Vietnam takes steps to address drop in durian exports to China

A report from the ministry shows that Vietnam’s durian exports to China reached only 35,000 tonnes worth around 130 million USD in the first four months of this year, equivalent to only 20% of export targets. In comparison, durian exports totalled 500 million USD in the same period last year.
