Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said all systems go for a summit between US President Donald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un to be held in the Southeast Asian city-state next week.
He told Singaporean reporters in Beijing on June 9 that “things will start happening within the next 24 hours,” but didn’t provide details.
He said he went to the DPRK to make sure that everything was spick and span and in place, no last minute spoilers or difficulties.
Both the US and the DPRK are pleased with the arrangements, the official added.
Vivian Balakrishnan arrived in Pyongyang on June 7 to have talks with his DPRK counterpart Ri Yong-ho to discuss preparations for the US-DPRK summit, slated for June 12. He also met with President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong Nam.
Also on June 9, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) said two of its reporters had to return to their country as they were arrested for allegedly trespassing in the home of the DPRK ambassador in Singapore.
The RoK Press Foundation said more than 300 RoK reporters plan to come to Singapore to cover the historic summit.-VNA
