An Giang: Officials congratulate Khmer people on Sene Dolta festival

Delegations of local leaders in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang recently visited and congratulated Khmer Bhuddhists and people on the occasion of the Sene Dolta Festival.

Delegations of local leaders in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang recently visited and congratulated Khmer Bhuddhists and people on the occasion of the Sene Dolta Festival, a holiday to honour ancestors.

During their visits, the leaders w ished the local Khmer Buddhist dignitaries, monks and people in the province a joyous and prosperous festival.
They hoped that the dignitaries and monks would work to promote solidarity in the province and act as a bridge linking the Party and Government with the Khmer population.

Representatives from local pagodas and religious institutions thanked the Party and State for creating favourable conditions in all walks of life for followers.

Sene Dolta is one of the largest Khmer festivals, paying tribute to ancestors and those who have contributed to the homeland.
It is held from the 30th day of the 8th lunar month to the second day of the 9th lunar month each year, which falls on the Roman calendar’s October 12-14 this year.

An Giang is home to more than 95,000 Khmer people, accounting for 4.2 percent of the province’s total local population and 75 percent of the its ethnic minority members.

They live mainly on agriculture and practise their religion at 65 pagodas.-VNA
