Ancient bronze bell discovered in Hung Yen province

An ancient bronze bell, weighing over 200 kilograms, has been discovered in a field in Nhan Vu hamlet, Nguyen Trai Commune, An Thi District, in the northern province of Hung Yen.

Nhan Dan newspaper quotedsources from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism assaying that initial examinations showed the bell was made during theLy-Tran Dynasty.

The bell, 102 centimetres tall and 60centimetres in diameter, was engraved with two Pulao Chinese dragons inits 20 centimetre long crown. Its body was carved with characters andexquisite patterns.

The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is currently studying the bell’s cultural and historical values.-VNA
