Fishermen discovered one more sunken ship in the waters of Binh Chau commune, Binh Son District, the central province of Quang Ngai on August 15.
It is the 3 rd ancient ship uncovered in the waters of Binh Chau commune since 1998, and contains many intact artifacts such as porcelain bowls and plates.
Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai museum Dr. Doan Ngoc Khoi said the three ancient ships in Binh Chau’s waters prove that the area used to be visited by many boats in ancient times.
Director of the Quang Ngai provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Dang Vu said the department in collaboration with local authorised agencies has encouraged people to protect the ancient ship because it is an underwater cultural heritage as well as a national asset.
After receiving information about the ancient ship, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee Le Quang Thich directed the police and border guards to protect the ancient ship.-VNA
