Moscow (VNA) – President of the Experts’ Council of the Fund for Scientific Studies “Asia-Europe Initiatives” of Russia Georgi Chofimchuk has hailed Vietnam as a trustworthy partner with increased prestige on the international arena.

He made the praise in his article on Vietnam’s role in the global economy which was published on the Diplomatic Academy of Russia’s ASEAN Centre website ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting scheduled for the central city of Da Nang from November 6-11.

Chofimchuk said apart from the APEC, Vietnam has so far joined and played an active role in more than 70 prestigious organisations regionally and globally, notably the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation, the Asia-Europe Economic Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

He recalled an event in 1965 in the central city of Da Nang where external interference in Vietnam’s war started and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2017 will be hosted.

After the Soviet Union was dissolved, Vietnam has partnered with and turned the US – the former foe into one of its leading economic partners, which he said, was partly attributable to Vietnam’s flexible external policy.

Vietnam has established diplomatic ties with over 170 countries worldwide and is a member of more than 650 non-governmental organisations.

The country has made strenuous efforts to go ahead and seek new opportunities for the goal of global integration and cooperation.

In the end, Chofimchuk noted that Vietnam was known worldwide in the past for its glorious and heroic history, but now, it has opened a new chapter as a trustworthy partner and a loyal friend in the world’s major affairs.-VNA
