The sixth conference of ASEAN-China Prosecutors General, in Hanoi on Nov. 24-25, will focus on transnational crime, the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPP) announced at a press briefing on Nov. 19.

According to the SPP’s Vice Head Khuat Van Nga, the conference, under the theme of “Strengthening judiciary cooperation in fighting organised transnational crimes,” is expected to welcome 190 delegates to take part.

During the two-day event, the participants will discuss the judiciary synergy between ASEAN countries and China to prevent cross-border crimes such as money laundering, smuggling, human trafficking, corruption and hi-tech crimes which are increasing in parallel with the economic development and globalisation process.

As scheduled, the conference will issue a joint statement on the countries’ common efforts to intensify the bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the countries in the field.

The ASEAN-China Prosecutors General Conference is organised annually, with member countries taking turns as host. The first was held in China in 2004. The sixth event is the first of its kind hosted by Vietnam.

Also according to Nga, the judiciary cooperation between Vietnam and China in the fight against crime over recent years has gained efficiency at the national level as well as between judiciary agencies of those localities that share the common border./.
