General Secretary (GS) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Le Luong Minh expressed his wish for the bloc and Ecuador to boost their cooperation in the future, focussing on a win-win relationship in all fields of common concern.

Minh made the suggestion in a meeting with Ecuador’s newly-appointed Ambassador to ASEAN Rodrigo Riofrio Machuca in Jakarta , Indonesia on October 21, when the diplomat presented his credentials to the GS.

Minh expressed his hope that the ambassador would utilise his tenure to play an active role in strengthening the ties between ASEAN and the Latin American country as part of the ASEAN- Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and ASEAN- Forum for East Asian-Latin American Cooperation (FEALAC) relations.

The host also gave his guest an overview of the formation process of the ASEAN Community by the end of 2015 and ASEAN’s post-2015 vision.

For his part, Machuca reaffirmed his country’s policy to reinforce and accelerate ties between the two sides as part of the cooperation framework between ASEAN and CELAC, while pledging to work closely with the group’s member states and the ASEAN Secretariat to realise their cooperation targets on investment, tourism, human rights and people-to-people exchange.

The ambassador also conveyed the Ecuadorian President’s invitation for Minh to visit the country in 2015.-VNA
