The sixth ASEAN People’s Forum (APF6) to be held in Vietnam will focus on boosting solidarity and cooperation among people of ASEAN countries and to build an ASEAN Community for people’s benefits, peace, and equal and sustainable development.

Nguyen Van Kien, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), made this statement at a press briefing in Hanoi on Aug. 19 during the preparations for APF6.

He said the forum is an open platform for people’s organisations participating in ASEAN. VUFO is the leading agency coordinating with Vietnamese and other ASEAN people’s organisations to organise the event in Hanoi from Sept. 23-26.

He said the Aug. 19 press briefing was the first among a series of activities to be held to provide information to the media.

Later, on Aug. 20, speakers from the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry and VUFO will provide information about ASEAN history, ASEAN activities in 2010 under the Chair of Vietnam, preparations, agenda, content and relevant issues of APF6, as well as APFs.

Relevant information on the forum is announced on the website http://apfvietnam2010.org.vn.

The VUFO official told the media that in the process of integration into the world, Vietnam has constantly presented itself as a trusted and responsible partner of the international community.

In 2010, as ASEAN Chair, Vietnam has been making preparations for the ASEAN Summit and actively contributing to the process to set up an ASEAN Community in 2015, he added./.
