Cambodia and Indonesia have agreed in principle on a number of issues over the East Sea , said the two countries’ to diplomats.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa told a press briefing in Cambodia on July 19, held after their meeting in Phnom Penh , that they will send the principles to other ASEAN foreign ministers.

They expressed the hope to receive replies from all ASEAN FMs by July 20 in order to announce these points.

However, the Cambodian diplomat refused to give details about the principles, saying the basic positions could be announced immediately if the other states approve.

For his part, Natalegawa said he had held talks with his counterparts in Vietnam and the Philippines , which are also in dispute with China in the East Sea .

The diplomat said he has received direct support for Indonesia ’s efforts to reach consensus on East Sea issues.

Indonesia is working to identify basic ASEAN positions on the
East Sea , Natalegawa said, noting that they are approaching the formalisation of this consensus.

He also confirmed that despite recent rumours, in fact ASEAN still remains united.-VNA
