Ittook the host team about 20 minutes to score the opening goal made bystriker Tran Danh Trung. Five minutes later it was 2-0 after Nguyen HuuThang's straight shoot.

Malaysian levelled the result inthe second half with goals by Aliff Haiqal Bin Lockman Hakim Lau from apenalty and Wan Ahamad Bin Wan Setapa who looped the ball over the headof Vietnamese keeper Vu Duc Minh.

When it went to the lastseconds Bui Minh Duc scored a third goal for the Vietnamese team,represented by the Viettel football club.

With three points, Vietnam 1 topped Group A and will next play Indonesia 1 on October 5.

Inthe later match, Vietnam 2, represented by Song Lam Nghe An FC,lost 0-2 to big-and-tall Thailand in the Group B's first match.

Their second match will also take place on October 5.

The two best teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on October 6.-VNA
